From Yakurr to the World
Livinus Oka Ikpi, professionally known as Wofai Visualz, is a Nigerian recording artist, creative, and entertainer from Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria.
Born on September 26, Wofai's artistic journey is deeply rooted in his experiences, creativity, culture, and a strong connection to the community that shaped him.
Today, he is regarded as one of the notable contemporary entertainers emerging from Ugep, with a growing body of music, collaborations, creative projects, and cultural initiatives that continue to connect Yakurr with wider audiences.
EARLY LIFE AND DISCOVERY OF MUSIC
Wofai developed an interest in music from an early age, but his passion became more serious during his secondary-school years when he began experimenting with songwriting, recording, and performance.
In 2010, while in SS2, he recorded his first known song, “Buscuit Bone.” Although he was still a student finding his artistic identity, the positive reaction from his classmates gave him an early confidence boost.
His classmates enjoyed his sound and often encouraged him to perform at school social gatherings. Those early performances helped him develop his confidence and gradually transformed music from a youthful interest into a serious artistic pursuit.
What began as experimentation would eventually become a defining part of his life.
EDUCATION AND MUSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Wofai later pursued higher education at the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), Calabar, where he studied Wood Products Engineering.
His university years exposed him to new people, talents, sounds, ideas, and creative perspectives. While pursuing his engineering education, he continued developing his passion for music and interacting with other creatives.
These experiences contributed to his growth, both as an individual and as an artist, and helped him begin developing a musical identity beyond his early influences.
After completing his university education, Wofai participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2023, adding another chapter to his personal and professional journey.
MUSICAL INFLUENCES
Among Wofai's early musical influences are prominent Nigerian artists including Frank Edwards, Ice Prince, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.
Their different approaches to songwriting, performance, sound, and artistic identity influenced his understanding of contemporary Nigerian music.
With time, however, Wofai began developing a sound and identity of his own—one shaped by his personal experiences, creativity, contemporary Nigerian music, and his connection to Yakurr culture.
BUILDING HIS SOUND
Collaboration has played an important role in Wofai's musical development.
He has worked with various artists and creatives, including Donkay, with whom he collaborated on “BIMA.” The song gained attention among members of the Yakurr community and further demonstrated Wofai's ability to connect contemporary music with the people and culture that inspire him.
As his artistic journey progressed, his music increasingly became a meeting point between entertainment and cultural identity.
Rather than separating himself from his roots, Wofai has embraced them as an important part of his story.
THE OBANDI MOVEMENT
