Usani Odum was crowned Mr. Leboku in 2009, becoming the first Mr. Leboku to win the Car Prize in the male category of the Leboku International New Yam Festival.
Following the end of his reign in 2010, he proceeded to study Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2016. He subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in International Human Rights Law, Democratization in Africa, and Law in Post-Conflict Contexts, obtaining qualifications from institutions in South Africa, Norway, and Japan.
Usani currently serves as a Transitional Justice Expert with the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission, supporting post-conflict societies across Africa in strengthening human rights institutions and accountability mechanisms. He also provides technical support to the AU Special Envoy for the Prevention of Genocide and Other Mass Atrocities in Africa.
He teaches law on a seminar and part-time basis at universities and professional institutions, including the University of Galway, Ireland, and the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Usani is married. His interests include research, reading, travel, and teaching.
