Biochemist | Educator | Cultural Ambassador | Community Builder
Mrs. Obia Michael Oka is a distinguished biochemist, educator, cultural ambassador, and community builder whose work seamlessly integrates scientific knowledge, education, and cultural preservation to inspire sustainable community development.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Cross River State, Calabar 2015. She completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the year 2017 at the Ministry of Petroleum, NNPC Towers, Abuja, where she gained valuable public service experience. Driven by her passion for education and youth development, she further earned a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Education from the University of Port Harcourt in the year 2022
As a Cultural Ambassador of the Leboku International Festival, I was popularly known as Queen Sarafina, I became deeply committed to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Yakurr people. Through storytelling, cultural advocacy, and active community engagement, she works to ensure that the traditions and values of her people are not only preserved but also embraced by future generations.
Her unique blend of scientific training and cultural passion enables her to bridge tradition and innovation. While her background in biochemistry has equipped her with analytical thinking, discipline, and problem-solving skills, her love for culture has strengthened her creativity, leadership, and commitment to community service. She believes that science and culture are complementary forces that can be harnessed to foster meaningful societal progress.
Mrs. Oka is equally passionate about education and youth empowerment. She is dedicated to mentoring, grooming, and tutoring young people, believing that quality education is the foundation for building responsible leaders and creating a better society.
Her vision is to build bridges between generations, unite tradition with innovation, and empower communities through knowledge, culture, and service. She is driven by the conviction that influence should always be used to create positive change and that cultural heritage can serve as a powerful tool for sustainable development.
Mrs. Obia Michael Oka was born into the family of the Late Inspector Essien Ibiang and Mrs. Adia Essien, both of Biko Biko Ward, Ugep, in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. And currently married to Eng Michael Oka of Ikpakapit, Ugep.
Outside her professional and community engagements, she enjoys sightseeing, singing, and football.
She lives by the philosophy:
“Determination is the greatest conductor through which success flows without elastic limits.”
